I have had the exact same experience (after having tried to install three different versions of Oracle 8i EE for Linux): The installation software must have been written by a four-year old. I'm impressed by how badly Oracle can code. No wonder why so many people go for products like MS SQL in stead.

The core Oracle technologies are probably still in the state-of-the-art league. It's a shame that it's so hard to reach the core...

Oracle: What's going on? You have built up a good name, but then you scare people away...
