.dmp File

Hi All,

I am looking for an explanation of .dmp files-- We are getting ready to do some offsite backup and are not sure if the .dmp file is and integral part. Our is approach 1.1 gigs. I'm not a DBA and have looked extensively for explanations of this file and it's importance and have as of yet not found an answer.
