My Solution for an Oracle 7.x-Server was an S, M, L, XL -Tablespace for data and index with speicified storage.

For Objects growing over 1G i defined a seperate tablespace for each Object.

In Oracle 8.1.x i the handling of pctincrease hs improved that the increase is not in dirctly in extents but in logical storage units, so fragmentation will have no chance!
