Oracle8i - MS Access linking delay

We have our clinical warehouse currently running on 7.3.3.4. A few of our key users use MS Access to run queries, etc. There haven't been any problems until we looked into upgrading to 8.1.5.

Now when we try to "link" from Access to an Oracle(8.1.5) table, the CPU on oracle goes sky high. Where a table use to link in under a minute on 7.3.3.4, it is now taking 10 minutes.

In running the statistical measurements [utlestat] on each of the two instances when the table is linked I find the following measures:

	            7.3.3.4 8.1.5
cpu 2095 46063
bytes from sqlnet 25277 87644
parse cpu 1984 45973

ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!
