There are various dumps and traces.
The server dumps several files all located in the directory pointed to by the background_dump_dest init.ora parameter: one generic alert file called <ORACLE_SID>alrt.log, one file per background process called

ARCH<ORACLE_SID>.trc
DBWR<ORACLE_SID>.trc
LGWR<ORACLE_SID>.trc
SMON<ORACLE_SID>.trc
PMON<ORACLE_SID>.trc
RECO<ORACLE_SID>.trc

SNP<n><ORACLE_SID>.trc.
If an user traces or dumps that occurs in the directory pointed to by the user_dump_dest init.ora parameter.
To get to those parameter either edit the init.ora or issue show parameter dump in svrmgr.
Your first guess is to look in the alrt file, BTW
