Locally Managed Tablespaces -- Good or Bad?

I just installed Oracle 8.1.6, and I noticed that the default for the non-system tablespaces is now "Locally Managed" versus Dictionary. I read Oracle's propaganda on local vs. dictionary but I still do not know whether it is really advantageous to use locally managed tablespaces. This is a new database not an upgrade, so I do not have to worry about the difficulties in shifting from Dictionary to Local.

Any real world experiences and tips would be greatly appreciated. Received on Wed May 03 2000 - 00:00:00 CDT
