I'm attempting to install Oracle 8.1.5 on a Solaris 8 Intel platform box. I am doing a "typical" installation and it appears to go well, right up to the point where it trying to create the standard database. Since I believed it was unnecessary (I wanted to create my own database anyway)I have had to abort at that point.
When I start SQLPLUS using internal/oracle I have a different error message reported on each of three occassions where I installed this: unable to start RECO process, unable to start SMON process, and unable to start CKPT process.
Are there any know problems/bugs with the x86 verson of Oracle 8.1.5? I'm using script files to create the database - the scripts work fine on a SPARC platform running Solaris 7.
Thanks very much.
Phil.
