Oracle 8i EE install problem on Red Hat 6.1

I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.5 on Red Hat 6.1. I did download and installed the blackdown jre 1.1.7 V3, as opposed to 1.1.6 v5 suggested by Oracle. Based on my experience with Red Hat 6.0 (I did half a dozen 8i installation on Red Hat 6.0), 1.1.7 is far better than 1.1.6.

The problem is, the "runInstaller" gave:

Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...
Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
: Bad address

I guess the installer did find the jre (which I can also run from OS prompt). However, it has some problem to start it correctly. Any idea?

I don't know if the following problem with my Red Hat 6.1 installation is relevant or helpful:
When I login as oracle to GNOME and try to start terminal, I get an error message saying that my "unix98 ptys" is not correctly setup and I could not get the OS prompt in the terminal window.

Thanks in Advance. Received on Fri Apr 14 2000 - 00:00:00 CDT
