Hello!!

  The problem seems to be the client side Net8 easy configuration

Just move to start->programs->oracle for winnt -> Net6 easy config

It is a wizard that will help u configure the client. The last step of the installation will have a test with a selected username password something like scott/tiger should do ??

Second soln would be to check all the tnsnames.ora on the client machine and check the hostname or alias has been registered

if that is already there

Since it is a client ... No problem simply re-install the SQL*Plus 8.0

Be careful here tnsping.exe is for sql 3.3

                tnsping80.exe is for sql 8.0
                tnspingl.exe is for 8i client

If problem persists then put it in lets see if I can help
