I easiest version to install on linux is 8.0.5 (you can get it from technet.oracle.com, be aware of the the glibc version, If you user RH 6.0+ you MUST download and install the glibc patch ) You can try also the 8i version (8.1.5, soon comes the 8.1.6) but I'think it's a kind of nightmare to install
