Robert,

        actually the oracle user is a memeber of the dba group, but its not its primary group. The primary group is oinstall. I just tried changing oracle's primary group to dba (and added oinstall as a secondary group). No change. I still can't connect internal. Note: all the files are owned by oracle:oinstall (as oppposed to oracle:dba). I don't know if this is correct or not, or if it has any affect.
