Password encryption versions

Is it known whether Oracle utilise different user password encryption algorithms between different versions & sub-versions? This would then restrict the forward & backward compatibility to a range of servers when performing 'alter user with values' for a given encryption?

The purpose is to hold a central store of users' oracle encypted passwords for 7.3.4 and 8.0.5 (and later 8.1.6) and knowing how many different version to keep without retaining plain text passwords. An automated password refresh can then be applied to all eligible systems. Received on Wed Mar 22 2000 - 00:00:00 CST
