Replication & Long Datatypes

I'm trying to set up Advanced Replication, but the database in question has tables with long datatypes which Oracle will not replicate. Has anyone found a way to work around this? It's a simple one-way replication on Sun E450s running Solaris 2.6 and Oracle 8i (8.1.5). The data has to stay as a long type on the replicated and target databases.
