New Oracle on Solaris Install

Hi,

We are a new Solaris shop. After installing 8.1.6, I get a out-of-memory error
on the startup nomount pfile= when building a database. The server has 1 gig
but ipcs -s doesn't show any semaphores and ipcs -m shows about 2 lines. Just to experiment, I modified /etc/system on my sparc5 workstation which has
128mg, rebooted and got the same ipcs results. These are first-use but refurbed Suns.

I reduced the initparm's shared pool, blks to 500 * 8k e.g to no avail.

Is there a setting the unix admin should have looked at??

Thanks.
