Copy database - change SID

Hi everybody!

I want to copy an ORACLE Database without usage of IMPORT/EXPORT-utility and give the new database another System ID. First I set up a destination DB with a new System ID. Then I exported the control-file and edited the paths of the data-files. Next step was copying the data-files from the source database to the new db and restoring the control-file from the edited backup-control-file. And at this point something went wrong: At startup the datafiles needed to be recovered with an archived log-file that did not even exist.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

   Gunter.
