Oracle 8.0.5 Linux install. HELP!!!

Ok, I've been working on this for 2 days now in the evenings, and I have managed to acomplishish this before, now I can't seem to get 8.0.5 installed on redhat linux 6.1. Everytime I go to start anything, I get a core dump.

i.e. svrmgrl = coredump

     sqlldr    = coredump
     any thing in $ORACLE_HOME/bin gets a core dump.

what gives?
