Oracle 8.1.5: V$SESSION column length changed!

I previous Oracle versions i used the colomn MACHINE in V$SESSION
to determine the machine name of a user.



In Oracle 8.1.5. the length of the colomn is reduced from 64 to 16
characters!


Therefore the machine name wil be cutted in most cases.



Does anyone know  how to get the full machine name?
