oracle8i and RedHat 6.0

I just installed oracle8i. The installation process went as smoothly as the instructions said they would and now I can't run java (ie. applets in netscape, the oracle installer, etc...). After the installation was complete, running dbassist didn't work as a test. Whenever I open a page in netscape with an applet, it closes netscape with bus error. I used jre 1.1.7 v.5 to install oracle8i.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how do I fix this?
