SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 1 -> NAMES.MAX_OPEN_CONNECTIONS = 5 And I would also increase expire_time to 10, provided this is the server's sqlnet.ora (otherwise it doesn't do anything anyway). This is the dead connection detection mechanism and it means sqlnet polls every minute.
