I disagree with the RAID 5 suggestion in every case except read-only databases. Suggest you use RAID 0+1, since you have so few disks, as the striping will help to distribute the I/O. Treat the array set as one logical drive, since it is of no advantage to have separate logical drives in one array set. When using RAID (if you have enough disks) the balancing of I/O (according to Oracle's OFA) is best accomplished with more than one "array set", which also allows appropriate different stripe sizes. I recommend Chapter 3 in the Oracle 24x7 Tips & Techniques Oracle Press book. Even if you are not a 24x7 shop, this is a great book and this chapter has an excellent description of RAID configurations and their relationship to Oracle. Good luck.
