ORA-03107 and ORA-0312O on select * from V$VERSION

select * from v$version gives me either ORA-03107: fatal two-task communication protocol error ORA-03120: two-task conversion routine: integer overflow

Anyone any ideas what's wrong here?

select ''||banner from v$version does not give the error

I use OO4O to connect to Oracle. Oracle version is 8.0.3.
