We are using Oracle 7.3.4.

Does anyone have any experience setting up operating system authentication for Oracle users in a heterogenous network (NT, Unix).

The Oracle instance is located on a Sun Solaris box and the user log into an NT network.

If the default variable (I can't remember) whose value is "OP$" is reset to "" in the init.ora are there any side effects if nobody is identified externally at the moment. I guess not.

Does the remote authentication work well w.r.t. roles and privileges.

Are there any funnies when moving to Oracle 8.

Are there any FAQs on this subject. It seems quite important to be flute'ing around with.

Regards
