Oracle 8.0.5 on Slackware 7

Hi there,

I'm trying to install Oracle 8.0.5 on Slackware 7.

When I select the install option "Install new product -> create DB objects", the installation proceeds fine until the time when it tries to execute "svrmgrl" and start up the database. The error message displayed is "Segmentation fault".

When I select the install option "Install new product -> do not create DB objects", the installation seems to be okay (no error messages). However, when I try running "sqlplus" or "svrmgrl" command by hand, again I get the "Segmentation fault" error.

From previous posts in the newsgroups, I understand that to install Oracle on older versions of Slackware, the glibc had to be upgraded. But since Slackware 7 is based on glibc-2.1.2, I presume there should be no problem?

Being quite a newbie at this, I would appreciate if anyone out there has any pointers/suggestions.

TIA!
