The DESCRIBE command in SLQ*PLUS, Wierd...

Does anyone know, why the DESCRIBE <objectName> would give 'Object not found' error. But, the SELECT on the same object works fine.

I explicitly checked the grants too...have SELECT privilege on all of them. This is happening for views defined on objects of other users. Including USER_OBJECTS, USER_INDEXES, USER_TABLES etc...Any clues?...
