Should db_verify (dbv) work on oslevel-cold-back-up redolog files?

I've looked in the Oracle8 utilities guide but it just says "datafiles" can be checked.

I get the error

Page 751 is marked corrupt
***
Corrupt block relative dba: 0x000002ef file=0. blocknum=751. Bad header found during dbv:
Data in bad block - type:0. format:0. rdba:0x000002ef last change scn:0x0020.170e08b7 seq:0x0 flg:0x00 consistancy value in tail 0x0002672b
check value in block header: 0x7329, check value not calculated spare1:0x1, spare2:0x7, spare2:0x3c2

for every page in the file (as far as I can tell..)

when I run

dbv file=redo_log.rdo blocksize=512 feedback=500

on SGI IRIX 6.5, Oracle 8.0.5

Any input appreciated,
