A truly wonderful feature of this bug is that it doesn't show up when I search metalink (UK mirror) using the key word SERIALIZABLE, or
even when I request bug no. 440317 directly.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the more serious bugs were put on the system before they were fixed so that we could find out about them before we hit them.
