Help!!! LONG database field is truncated

An Oracle database has a LONG database field. When i make an insert in a  database with SQL Plus, a string which has more than 80 characters is t runcated.

I would like to know how to configure Oracle to take correctly into acco unt database fields > 80 characters ?
