Yes you can do it manually but the advantages of NT Services is that you can attach them to different Hardware Profiles (although hardware is a bit of a misnomer here). Thus you can automatically start all your Oracle services (or not) simply by determining which hardware profile the machine is going to use. Also services start even if no-one logs on.
