Parallel Server question

Hi,



As I understand it, parallel server can have many Oracle instances on
many distributed servers, each instance has its own redo logs, but all
instances access the same database ?



Is therefore parallel server really to help provide load balancing /
increase performance increase as opposed to providing resilience ?
