Hi,

The main problems I ran into when doing a migration from 7.3.3 to 8.0.5 (sgi IRIX) were of my own creation! Remember to move your redo logs and other files which reside in the 7.3.4 ORACLE_HOME to the new 8.0.5. I also had a weird permissions problem, but I think that was a unix problem (I had rsh -ed instead of rlogin) and not an oracle one.

Other tips: ensure that the "compatible" parameter in your init.ora file is commented out. and definitely do a cold backup of your database and the 7.3.4 ORACLE_HOME before you start. Other than that, if you follow the migration manual it is pretty simple.

Incidentally, I chose migration because my database was huge and would have taken a long time to export!
