What to do about monitoring database consumption remotely when your customers don't necessarily have a DBA or 'RDBMS savvy' staff?

Should the application perform some query and report to the system administrator nightly?
Or report (via wan) to the software vendor's (my) site?
Should we avoid secondary (next) extents so as not to have to worry about figuring out when we are running out of physical space?
