I have implemented online (hot) backups using Veritas Netbackup and RMAN and it works extremely well. Solstice Backup (Legato) also has a hot backup module that hooks into RMAN, but I don't have experience with it. Netbackup has some neat stuff (OS Block Level Incrementals) but it's mainly a preference of UI.
