I am trying to install Oracle 8i on Solaris x86. When the installer run the database configuration assistant, I got a error message like 'Oracle not available'. and I have to abort the installation. From what I read, I could set in the /var/opt/oracle/oratab to make the database auto-started when system reboot. I did that and sqlplus or svrmgrl always complains.

What's the problem. I am new to both oracle DBA and Solaris. Any input is greatly appreciated
