Hi everyone,

Under previous version of Oracle - I have always created a unix account called oracle which belongs to the group dba, and the osdba and osoper roles are assigned to the dba group. This account is then used for installation and database admin work.

Now, under 8i, it seems that a different set up is required. Namely, a group called 'oinstall' is created, and assigned to accounts that will be running the installer. Then, different accounts with a group of 'dba' are created for accessing the database for administrative purposes.

Have I understood this correctly ?
If so, why the change ?
Is this how you people are doing it ?

Any help much appreciated

Regards
