Scott,

What operating system will be (is) used on this box? Will the database(s) be 7x24? Do you only want hot backups or will you be doing some/all cold backups?

Before you consider a software backup solution, make sure you have formulated a full backup and recovery strategy. Thoroughly read the Oracle Backup and Recovery Guide and other guides available at your local book store or online. Once you have a firm grasp of backup and recovery, evaluate the different products available. For example, backupexec 7 or Arcserve for NT have backup agents for Oracle which allow you to backup open files. Many other products are available and personal preference definitely comes into play. A good product from one person may not be a good product for someone else.

Brian.
