Hi!
Yes, this sounds really interesting and fun! As you cannot risk downtimes of your database, you must think about clustering software and Oracle Parallel Server. I would not recommend NT for this application size, you have to think about one of the big unix boxes! Think about RAID, good backup strategies.

Try to get some more information about how Java would perform in such an environment, I don't have any experience how thousands of parallel executing Java things perform inside Oracle. Has anybody else experience on this topic?
