Hi,
 AFAIK, this is only limited by the max amount of contigous memory  you can allocate. This is limited (1) by the amount of physical memory  on your machine, and (2) by the os and architecture of your machine.  On a 32 bit machine you would'nt be able to allocate more that 4GB in  one chunk.

 IMHO this is rather academic, i cannot see anybody reaching this limit.
