8.0.5 on our Solaris box occupies approx. 375MB -- that seems to be a pretty standard amount of space. Note that 8.1.5 (8i) will occupy much more -- approx. 575 on our installation, again on Soalris (FWIW, the 8i doc. stated it would occupy about 800MB!)

500MB is a very small database by Oracle standards -- assuming it is configured even approximately correctly you should be OK --
