Here’s an odd item ….

I did a SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE and got results that look like this:

NAME BYTES

---------------------------------------- ---------
E:/ORADATA/WRPP/WRPPSYS1.DBF 267386880 G:\ORARBS\WRPP\WRPPRB11.DBF 267386880 X:\ORATEMP\WRPP\WRPPTMP1.DBF 267386880 E:/ORADATA/WRPP/WRPPDTA1.DBF 52428800 E:/ORADATA/WRPP/WRPPDTE1.DBF 52428800 E:/ORADATA/WRPP/WRPPDTE2.DBF 52428800

Notice the mixed use of a forward slash (unix style) and back-slash (MS style) in the file names. This is a pure NT environment. How could this have happened, and how can the database work, using filespecs that are invalid for the OS?

Inquiring minds want to know!
