Hi lothar:

        I think U made two simple mistakes [ I am sorry it can also be two incorrect actions.. :) ]. When U want to have a os authentication U as Fuzzy mentioned U should have OS_AUTHENT_PREFIX set to something usually U have to just uncomment the line in the init file which defaults to ops$. Which means that U should create a db account as ops$la identified externally. Also I just posted a similar reply where U can check out some more details. I think the question was some thing like "can't sqlplus / "
