Is there way to conduct database benchmarking?

I have looked everywhere for ways of determining database performance, namely with Oracle8, using various storage products. The OLTP benchmark standard is currently TPC-C, but that is a monster development project that only the big boys (Oracle, Microsoft, Compaq, etc.) have been willing to tackle.

Is there any Z-D "SQL Bench" - like program out there that can be used to determine general database performance???
