I think you don't need JServer when using Oracle Application Server, unless you want to use Java Store Procedure.
JServer is just a JVM in Oracle Database Server, make it able to execute Java codes.
If you don't need Java Store Procedure, use OAS + Oracle 8i
OAS can support JCORBA and Enterprise Java Beans without JServer.
