Hi,

Recently, I started getting some strange behavior from my Oracle 8.1.5 install on Linux. Users other than oracle always get the message "Oracle is unavailible" even though the ORACLE_SID is set correctly.

Also, there are some messages showing up in the alert.log and the trace for the currently running PMON. The message is (repeated about every minute)

    Load Indicator not supported by OS !

Also, for each login attempt, it creates a ora_xxx.trc file with messages like this:

    Release:        2.2.10
    Version:        #2 SMP Thu Jul 29 19:37:59 CDT 1999
    Machine:        i686

    Instance name: ORCL2
    Redo thread mounted by this instance: 0 <none>     Oracle process number: 0
    993

    skgm error 27123: errno = 13, info = 3, 516, 0, 0     skgm error 27123: errno = 13, info = 3, 516, 0, 0

I don't know if this means anything, but there is this:

$ oerr ora 27123
27123, 00000, "unable to attach to shared memory segment"
// *Cause: shmat() call failed
// *Action: check permissions on segment, contact Oracle support

If anyone has any hints on this one, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Eric
