Thanks for this, I couldn't see how Oracle could generate sufficient IO activity during a hot backup to have a significant impact, but didn't understand where the original concern came from.

Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to get hold of the documentation, but I think it was in a tender response from a hardware vendor, so they may have just being trying to drum up business for an extra server to hold the backup mirror!
