It is true that I too get the same error. This is because you have the format mask as dd/mm/rrrr and type only the numbers and not the '/' OR ANY PERIODS You may try the following.
Set the property of the date field as follows.

max length             8
fixed length           yes
format mask         DDMMRRRR ( without ' / ' )

Then it works fine without any error
