Hi,

I have a Oracle 8i DB residing on a SUN box and I want to connect to it remotely from a Oracle Client machine (WindowsNT) using "Reflections for UNIX". I log onto the Server containing the database using the "oracle" unix username from the remote machine. I run sqlplus and try to log into the database but it gives me the "ORA-01034" error message.

When I do "ps -ef" I can see the database processes etc. are running and on the server machine I can connect using sqlplus. The one strange thing I have found, is when I shutdown the database on the server and try to startup from the remote machine, I get a message saying that it cannot open initxxxxx.ora file. I noticed that this file is named differently on the server (initXXXXX.ora) the case is different.

Does this mean that my remote instance cannot connect to the server instance ?
What file contains the reference to the initxxxxx.ora file on both the server and remote machines ?? (so that I can check that this reference is in the same case for both machines ...)

Many thanks in advance. Received on Tue Oct 19 1999 - 06:00:49 CDT
