I had also a problem with the JVM when installing Oracle on WINNT 4.0. The Database assistant and other java application didn't work.

It sounds silly, but when i changed the number of colours from 16 to 32000 and re-installing, it works. It seemed that the JVM won't operate correctly when using 16 colour (video adapter).
