The following is done on Red Hat 6.0. I set up a user called 'oracle'
that belongs to the group 'dba' and the group 'oinstall'. These
instructions are per the "Oracle 8i installation guide for
Intel-Linux". I also downloaded JRE 1.1.6 v5 from www.blackdown.org,
and installed it in /usr/local/jre. I try to install it with the
'oracle' user by typing './runInstaller' and I get the following error
message.......
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please
wait...
/usr/local/jre/bin/../bin/checkVersions: /tmp/ldd.out.1405:Permission

stackbase=(nil), stackpointer=(nil)

Can anyone help? What am I doing wrong?
