Unfortunately due to bugs in 8.0.5 we _have_ to use 8.1.5 - most particularly Pro*C now handles GNU glibc includes properly.

We've managed to install 8.1.5.0.0 & patch it to 8.1.5.0.1 today. Thank buggery for that! Now we've got to dump out the old database and import it into the new database tomorrow.

Tips: When installing 8.1.5.0.0, make sure YOU install everything - all three products - Oracle 8i, Oracle 8i client and Oracle 8i programming, and generate the libclnt.so.* library otherwise patching fails most miserably!!

Parts of 8.1.5.0.1 are still horribly broken. dbassist is one.

I pray they'll get it right for the next patch. Oracle, are you listening?!

Cheers,
Alex
