Good Morning,

We have been using that registry setting for several months now for exactly the same reason. It works fine for us, although I only have it in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/oracle. We currently have NT4.0, SP5, and Oracle 8.0.5.1.0, although it also worked when we were on SP4 and Oracle 8.0.5. Is your registry value of type REG_EXPAND_SZ? Doubt if it makes a difference, but I seem to remember the manual specifying that type. Also I am assuming that the key you put the value in is 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'? Hope it helps.
